I sang in a performance of "Coro di morti" at Tanglewood in 1962, conducted
by Hugh Ross...they drafted all the conducting, piano and composition
students into the chorus in those days.

WONDERFUL piece, with fascinating sonorities--male chorus, brass,
percussion, three pianos and [string] basses.

Otherwise, I recall hearing Giulini conduct a flute/orchestra piece by
him with the BSO in the early 1960s and one of the concerti for orchestra
with the LSO in the early 1970s.

I learned a 1969 piece for chamber ensemble and bass voice, "Beatitudines"
for a new music concert about ten years back; unfortunately the concert
didn't take place...

Always the sense of a very personal language, an uncanny sense of sonority
and a strong "message".  I wish I had the chance to hear and perform
more of his music...and similarly, the neglect of Dallapiccola is
incomprehensible.
