With the help of the list info from 1997, I've managed to find another
photo of an eary sprigged piece
http://www2002.stoke.gov.uk/museums/pmag/ceramics/collections/wood/pots/ironstone1a.htm
that is more similar to our bits than the porcelain I've found on
ebay.
So far, the information leads me to believe that the sprigged ware was
made both in the early 1800's and again around 1880 or later.  The
earlier date fits with other material found on the site, so the hunt for
documentation is on.

For some reason the pictures remind me of a ceramic flower bowl or
pot.
I don't have a citation, but I think I remember seeing something like
this at a plant nursery.
