As far as what parts of the skeleton are best for recycling into other
articles, the answer is the metacarples and metatarsals first and then the
tibias, femurs, humeri, and possibly the radius. These bones have the
thickest walls and are the densest. The pahlanges could be boiled down
for glue. Scapulas could be used for buttons and I think I hve seen
mandibles that have holes from button manufacture but the core of spongy
tissue would not have contributer to good buttons.
There is a good book about the Medieval Bone industry that would
seem useful. Antler, Horn, Bone, & Ivory, by MacGreggor(?).
