This might have been an interesting experiment, but I don't think it
really proved much of what the experimenters thought it would. In NYC,
there are many good (and bad) musicians playing in the subways. When
I am going somewhere, I do not have the time to listen - As a freelance
artist, I am mostly chasing the rent, so work and appointments take
priority to leisure listening in a public area. I think perhaps the
experiment did not indicate specifically that commuters do not recognize
good music or a famous musician's style or that they just don't care.
Subways are not concert halls. Maybe the experiment showed more
dramatically how people do not have the time during a working day
to idlely pass the time being entertained.
