Mallarme Chamber Players Present An Evening of the Music of Dan Locklair
at Reynolda House Museum of American Art in Winston-Salem, North Carolina

On Wednesday, November 10 at 8:00 PM, the nationally acclaimed Mallarme
Chamber Players will present an evening devoted to the chamber music of
American composer Dan Locklair in the auditorium of the Mary and Charlie
Babcock Wing of the Reynolda House Museum of American Art, 2250 Reynolda
Road in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

This concert will celebrate the Albany Records release of Dan Locklair:
Chamber Music (Troy 701-02 -
http://www.jamesarts.com/releases/sept04/DL_nws_092804.htm), a superb
new 2 CD set featuring six of the composer's major chamber works, performed
by Mallarme Chamber Players and other artists across the U.S.

Works to be presented on November 10 include Reynolda Reflections, a
trio for flute, cello and piano, premiered at the Foothills Chamber Music
Festival in 2000, Music of Quince, for flute, clarinet, violin and piano,
and Dream Steps: A Dance Suite, for flute, viola and harp, which was
commissioned by Mallarme with partial funding from the North Carolina
Arts Council.

For tickets or more information about this concert, please contact
Reynolda House at (336) 758-5150. You can visit them online at

Reynolda Reflections was inspired by five works from the museum's
collection by painters Worthington Whittredge, Thomas Hart Benton,
Georgia O'Keeffe, Charles Sheeler and Elliott Daingerfield. Since
its 2000 premiere, Reynolda Reflections has entered the chamber music
repertoire, with notable performances by the Mid-Atlantic Chamber Music
Society of Wilmington, NC and the Kansas City Summerfest.

Dream Steps: A Dance Suite was composed to be an accompaniment to dance
as well as a freestanding chamber work. It draws its inspiration from
the Langston Hughes poem "Lenox Avenue Mural," whose symbolism and form,
combined with references to a German Protestant chorale and Negro
spirituals, provide the basis for the musical development.

Internationally recognized American composer Dan Locklair, a native
of Charlotte, NC, is Composer-in-Residence and Professor of Music at
Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. His compositional output,
influenced by a wide variety of traditions, ranging from Medieval to
modern music, includes symphonic works, a ballet, an opera, and numerous
solo, chamber, vocal, organ and choral compositions. His music has been
performed throughout Europe and North America by many major orchestras,
choral groups, chamber ensembles and soloists. Several of these works
have received major awards, including the 1989 Barlow International
Competition Award for "changing perceptions & Epitaph" and the 1996
American Guild of Organists Composer of the Year Award. Among his other
honors are consecutive ASCAP Awards since 1981 and a Kennedy Center
Friedheim Award.
