Ed Zubrow writes concerning Goode and Perahia:
>I have the same complaint about both of them, based on the Perahia I
>have heard. Specifically, I find them (obviously) accomplished
>pianists but without distinctive character.
It appears that I share Ed's views; both pianists are lyrical and enjoyable
in a mainstream way but rarely lift me to a higher plane.
>Try one of my two current favorites for a different listening experience:
>Brendel or Russell Sherman.
Good choices, particularly Brendel, but each of them provides distinctive
interpretations. Now that I think of it, I haven't listened to the
Sherman volumes on GM for many a month, a situation I need to correct.
I don't always agree with his interpretive decisions, but he is always
an artist who gives a fresh look at the written score and its architecture.
