But surely you distinguish recycled use from primary use of artifacts? This
recycled use has little to do with the original intent of the object. For
example, contact period Native American people here in California found wine bottle
glass and Export porcelain to be great platforms for projectile point making.
Another example would be Chinese opium users cutting a bottle to contain heat
in processing the drug. Re-use of canning jars for drinking tumblers is yet
another common example. Yet, standard connection of the wine bottle, Export
porcelain platter, or canning jar to primary behaviors would have nothing to do
with recycled use of objects. In point of fact, this is sort of a red herring
in history.
