Based on comments on this thread, I went back to the ASV insurance
company and checked facts with them. Our general liability coverage
covers the ASV organization, the officers, directors and assigns. It
covers volunteers who work on sites and it covers our own members who
work on sites. To put it grossly, if a vol or a member chops a foot
off, the ASV has coverage. What it does not have is in a gray area.
Medical expenses for ASV members is NOT covered, while med exp. for
vols is covered under the liability.
They also said that waivers signed by vols, members and anyone else for
a specific project are valid, provided that an attorney experienced in
those matters has vetted it for problems.
This is Virginia only, not the wilder states in the Grand Union.
