Hi all,

re., geoff carver's} I can only see non-metrification as hurting the US economy, since that
means American stuff can't be exported to the rest of the world

jb} There are many deterrents to the metrification of the U.S. .. familiarization, cost of
re-tooling, the pound being a true force unit .. where as the kg is not. And there is greater
intuitiveness {and a familiar ring} to a door being 6 ft 6 rather than 198 cm. To say nothing of
third down and 2 {yards} to go!

All that not withstanding .. there is the problem as geoff stated, of international trade, of
the existence of two measuring systems in screw threads, etc., and both systems side by side in
the same engine compartment.

My preference is the English system because {for me} it's more intuitive, and {being an engineer
by degree} I prefer the force unit {the pound} to be a force unit .. not a mass unit!
