The American Chamber Ensemble Presents Special "Don Quixote - The First
400 Years" Concert On November 7 At Hofstra University - Concert Features
Music by Ravel, Milhaud, Moszkowski, Surinach & Boatwright
The American Chamber Ensemble's "Don Quixote - The First 400 Years"
concert will take place on Sunday, November 7, 2004, at 3 p.m. when the
Music Department of Hofstra University presents ACE at the University's
Monroe Lecture Center Theater on California Avenue in Hempstead, New
York. This concert, which opens the Ensemble's 40th Anniversary season,
is presented in conjunction with the Hofstra Cultural Center's conference,

Repertoire for this concert will be Maurice Ravel's song cycle Don
Quichotte, with Guest Artist Chandler Carter, bass, Darius Milhaud's
Scaramouche for two pianos, Moritz Moszkowski's Five Spanish Dances for
two pianos, Carlos Surinach's Quartet for piano and strings and American
composer Howard Boatwright's Quartet for clarinet and strings.
Tickets for the November 7 concert are available at the Hofstra University
Box Office for $10 ($8 senior citizens 65+ and non-Hofstra students).

Performers for this concert will be the Directors of the American Chamber
Ensemble, pianist Blanche Abram and clarinetist Naomi Drucker, who will
be joined by pianist Marilyn Sherman Lehman, violinists Eriko Sato and
Deborah Wong, violist Lois Martin, and cellist Chris Finckel.
The American Chamber Ensemble explores the great chamber music literature
for clarinet and piano in combination with strings, woodwinds and voice
and presents performances featuring world-class artists. ACE consists
of the finest freelance musicians in the New York area and has been cited
by critics for their superb presentations of chamber masterworks. Their
latest CD on Elysium - American Clarinet Treasures - features core members
of ACE performing works by George Kleinsinger, Virgil Thomson, Daniel
Gregory Mason, Elliott Carter, Douglas Moore and Gary Schocker, with
Guest Artist Stanley Drucker. This will be joined in 2005 by their
new Elysium CD, The American Chamber Ensemble Plays Peter Schickele.
ACE concerts are supported by the Hofstra Music Department, and assisted
with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state
agency, and private contributions.
