Dear lovers of music,
You may be interested in the premiere of "The Sisters of Manzanar" (by
yours truly). This one-act opera is about the relationship between two
Japanese-American sisters as they experience racism when forcefully sent
to an internment camp during World War II. There is love and jealousy,
hatred and tragedy. The performance is being superbly interpreted by
sopranos Cecile Saine and Sandra Boysen along with actor Mark Dawson.
Many have noticed the parallel between the Japanese-Americans then and
the Arab-Americans today concerning how our society views these American
ethnic groups.
Please come. Also on the program is Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber
and a symphony by Johann Stamitz. The concert is Friday, October 11,
8:00 PM, at Salem UCC and Spiritus Christi Church, 60 Bittner St. in
Downtown Rochester, NY (near St. Paul & Innerloop). Tickets are $20
($15 student/senior). Call (585) 264-1705.
Yours truly,
Paul Stuart, Artistic Director
Equinox Symphony Chamber Orchestra
