Archiving anything transferred to portable media is fraught with peril because
of the vagaries of fate and the level of investment required to manually
convert individual files to a future platform.  However, if that dataset is
important enough to be maintained on a sever (e.g. on line reports, image
databases, or site files) then than batch conversion can be done and the
effort for that upgrade is minimal.
