Sounds like a story I heard from the Mesoamericanists in grad school,
only that involved all non-diagnostic sherds, 55-gallon drums, and a
backhoe.

there's been a big discussion in england, too - some museums have
talked
about reburying sherds packed in boxes, just in case someone ever
needed
them again... not sure what has happened in the debate, but i could
maybe
hunt up a few references
