Last week, for my class in American Music, I played the NYPhil Young
People's Concert, "What is American Music?" Bernstein was talking about
the nationalities of some of the orchestra players and he mentioned their
names. Funny how I recognized their names and yet today, I doubt I could
think of the names of any NYPhil players. True, I grew up on listening
to the NYPhil, but I also knew the names of players in the Boston, Chicago
and Cleveland Orchestras...
