pose to this group is, what pieces comprise your absolute musical zenith?
What's that piece of music that, when you hear it, it totally rejuvenates
your spirit, gives you mental clarity, and elevates your being to a
consciousness worlds above the earth? Once again, I'm ecstatic to be a
part of this group and I look forward to talking music with each and
every one of you! Thank you for having me!

Within a year of my 70 th birthday I am heartened that some young people
are discovering the pleasures of classical music. I am also a bit envious
- you have much to discover. In response to your question, I can list
three works:

Mozart, Divertimento for Strings, K 563.
Mahler, Das Lied von der Erde
     Schnittke, Symphony # 8.
     Beethoven: Missa Solemnis

The list is arbitrary in a sense, and might be different next week.
Haydn Quartets, Mozart and Haydn Symphonies, Stravinsky ballet scores,
just to name a few high points. Some of these works may be not the best
for beginners- but that is a decision you should make. Follow what you
like.
