Historic preservation is keeping something old in the best condition for
public interpretation for as long as we can. I recall a declaration that the
owners of the whaleship Morgan will do everything in their power to keep the ship
afloat and in a condition to be enjoyed by the public as long as it will float.
We are stewards of the past and this includes tombstones, whaleships, old
houses and archaeological collections. However, stewards are not magicians and
nothing will last forever.
