I seem to recall a movie in which the letters "crackers" were painted on a
barrel and old geezers (defined as 90+ years old) were sitting around shooting
the breeze. I always thought that was the source of the term, "sitting around
the cracker barrel." It could be this is a Hollywood myth that imprinted in our
collective minds as a possible reality.
