Dear List,
I am on a university committee which is discussing acquiring a
networked digital database software package to be used for storaging and
accessing large numbers of images (and possibly other types of digitized
data, such as documents). This is the early planning stage, and we are
contemplating the uses, limitations, and costs involved. The main
functions seem to revolve around the Fine Arts program and archiving
digitized photos.
Currently in my lab we handle our own digital pictures with PC based
packages (Paint Shop Pro currently). My question is this, are there
packages that are archaeology "industry standards" for this type of
application? Can anyone give me suggestions of what issues they have
encountered or know about with server based, shared packages. I would
like to benefit from the experience of others who may have used or know
about this type application in the context of archaeology.
Thanks in advance for any insights on these issues listmembers may
share.
