Stealth Down, by Ross W. Simpson (Narwhal Press, hard bound, 1st edition,
2002, heavily illustrated and indexed) (This is an extremely detailed account
of the crash of the Stealth F-117A Nighthawk fighter, and the heroic" rescue
of its pilot. The area was crawling with three Serb army brigades. They were
ordered to capture "Vega 31" at all costs. However, forty-four U.S. airmen in
three helicopters and six A-10s denied the Serbs the "Mother of all POWs."
They flew directly into the most lethal air defense systems in the Balkans,
braving antiaircraft fire and surface-to-air missiles. The shootdown sent a
shock wave through the Air Force, and demonstrated that the Black Jet was
neither invisible nor invincible. (Note: Simpson's news coverage has earned
him almost every award that the broadcast industry has to offer, including
the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award, twice. He currently anchors the
morning news on The Associated Press Radio Network.) $29.95 hardcover and
just hitting the market. Not available in paperback.

The Hunley: Submarines, Sacrifice & Success in the Civil War, by Mark Ragan,
(Narwhal Press, library bound, 1st edition, 1995, footnoted and bibliography,
heavily illustrated, this edition has a valuable appendix and an index which
were not included in the revised edition.) (Note: The Hunley was the first
submarine in the history of the world to actually sink an enemy ship. Ragan
is the official historian of the Friends of the Hunley Inc. and has worked on
both the raising and the laboratory excavation of the submarine.) $50.00 and
well worth it.

Treasures of the Confederate Coast: The Real Rhett Butler & Other Revelations
, by Dr. E. Lee Spence, (Narwhal Press, signed, first edition, first
printing, 1995, 528 pages, heavily illustrated and indexed, thousands of
reference notes) (Note: Dr. Spence was the original discoverer of the wreck
of the Hunley and the book includes a chapter on that historic submarine. It
has a section with detailed information on hundreds of shipwrecks. There are
chapters on the George Trenholm, who was the historical figure behind Rhett
Butler, and on the Georgiana. There are several valuable appendices. Spence's
work has been written up in over a thousand periodicals, including Life,
People, The New York Times, etc. He has been interviewed by Jane Pawley and
has been in a number of documentaries. An episode on Spence will appear on
Dick Clark Productions' Livin' Large November 9/10, 2002) paperback $20.00
currently available. Specify which printing or you may receive the 1996
printing. Library bound hardcover temporarily out of stock $50.00.
