Program: Music of Bohuslav Martinu, on the occasion of his 113th birthday
(he was born on December 8, 1890), including his joyous and spirited
Sonata #3 for cello and piano (1952), songs from Moravian folk poetry,
and the Quartet for piano and strings (1942), a heartfelt work of gratitude
and homesickness. A brief musicological perspective will be provided
by Dr. Judith Fiehler of the Library of Congress.
Musicians: Founding members of the Coolidge Quartet Hasse Borup violin,
and Amy Leung, cello, along with Phillipe Chao, viola, Carl Banner,
piano, and Karyn Friedman, mezzo soprano.
