Ron and others,
Sorry for not providing the full citation to the paper, which is as
follows:
George L. Miller
1988 "The Association of Earthen Ware Dealers of Boston" The
Heritage of Wedgwood: Articles from the Proceedings of
the Wedgwood International Seminars held in Charlotte #36, and Boston #37,
Dallas #38. Edited by Keith A. McLeod and James R. Boyle. The
Wedgwood International Seminar. pages 126-147.
The Wedgwood International Seminar is an annual publication, and from
the above title it can be seen that they fell behind for their meetings in
Charlotte, Boston, and Dallas. My paper on the Association of Earthenware
Dealers of Boston was from the Boston meetings of the WIS. The book of
minutes from the Boston Earthenware Dealers is in the Massachusetts
Historical Society and it covers the period 1817 to 1835. Most of the
actions involved trade practices, attempts to fix prices, actions taken
against potters who dumped ceramics on the Boston market to be auctioned
off, and complaints between various members. The minutes also has lists of
the members for a couple of different years. It is a very interesting
document that sheds light on how the trade worked.
Peace,
George L. Miller
