For lack of a better term, there is a site that I'm calling a waystation
that operated from 1869 to around 1901.  At this location there was also a
toll booth, a hostel, and a store/saloon.  The hostel grew from a simple
family cabin used seasonally during sheep migration into the higher
elevations-- into a hotel after the toll road along which it was located
became quite popular.



The owner of the hostel was also one of the main developers of the toll
road, and his wife ran the hotel while he and his son "tended the flocks"
(sheep).  My question is this:



Does anyone know of previous archaeological excavations conducted at sites
occupied seasonally and operated as a base, by a woman, for satellite men's
work? He he.  Just thought I'd ask!
