Snaps date to 1863, according to the following reference:

HISTORICAL ARCHAEOLOGY
Does anyone know when snaps, like the ones you would see on a shirt, or a
baby's onesie, were invented? Or when they became readily accessible in
stores? I have checked the 1902 Sears Catalog, and there are no snaps in
it. Also, along the same thread (no pun intended) how about early dates
for
hook and eye closures? Any help is appreciated.
