The place to hear Canadian composers and performers (if you lived in
Britain, at least) used to be the through-the-night broadcast on Radio 3.
I think they must have had a deal with Canadian radio; at any rate many
night-time feeds with our first child were accompanied by the sounds of
some of the composers named here or other pieces played by Canadians.
However, now our second child is at the same stage the small-hours
repertoire is less adventurous and I can usually identify the music being
played immediately (if I'm not too groggy). They still have some favourite
obscure composers; Clerembault and Hellendaal turn up with relentless
frequency. (Actually, these two are not so obscure to me; I have performed
music by the first and the second is buried in the graveyard of the church
in which I was married).
