Yesterday I went to the Tower Records in Lincoln Center, New York. There
is a new CPO CD featuring spurious Bach cantatas, I think it's Vol 3 in
their ongoing series. I asked a clerk where could I find "Vol 1." He
retorted back, "in the same place you found that."
When I pointed out to him that the CD I had in my hands was in the new
releases bin, he made a facial expression akin to "oh lord, please don't
bother me," and grudingly walked over to the Bach section. I had no
clue how the CD would be classified because the works really aren't by
Bach.
I know Tower's doesn't pay their staff much money. I know that NYC isn't
the friendliest place. I learnt a long time ago just because people
like Classical music, that makes them have better manners: but for a
business that really relies on customer satisfaction: I think Tower's
should have a better approach in training their staff. But then, can
you really teach manners?
And we wonder why sales are down so much. I STILL think a lot of it has
to do with ill mannered clerks.
My 2 cents worth.
