Elizabeth,
IMHO you should be teaching why BF should NOT be painful. You can teach
to the same points, but a la Diane Wiessinger, turn the discussion around
to how to prevent BF from being painful to mom. And if it is painful,
then something is WRONG. And why does your supervisor think there is
discomfort associated with BF if you have a c/sec? Your nurses need to
know how to help mom get baby latched on correctly, how to help moms with
pumping info if baby is a preemie or ill, and most of all support the
notion that BF is the BEST food for the baby, bar none. And they need to
know that you are the "go to" person if they can't fix a problem!
