I've always loved "WAM" too!  The acronym and the greatest composer.  My
"Rush Hour" movement (trumpet, saxophone, and percussion) from Ellen's
Alley for chamber orchestra uses visual music for the melodic movement:

    o       o       o       o           o       o
      o   o   o   o       o   o       o   o   o   o
        o       o       o       o   o       o       o

(In my mail window, the above looks like the shape of the letters).

It works really well, but it results in some rhythmic difficulties
(alternation of 5/8 and 8/8 meters).
