Here's an opportunity to hear some Renaissance and early Baroque works
from the Nordic countries that are likely not to have been heard in
the US up to now, performed by the Orchestra of the 17th Century, the
Washington Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble, and the early music choir
Carmina, on successive Sundays later this month.
Conductor Micheal Holmes told me that the works in these concerts were
among those identified in the Duben Collection in Uppsala, Sweden.
Holmes was recently in Scandinavia (primarily in Helsinki) on a
Fulbright Scholarship, where he studied the works of both Sibelius and
various early music composers who were active or had works brought to
the courts of those countries.
Further information on some of these works is available at the Orchestra's
website, http://www.earlymusic.net/O17/index.html
