Kalistos Ensemble was formed in the spring of 2002 by a group of Boston
area musicians and friends brought together by a common love of music and
a desire to contribute to the community. The players involved share a
desire to bring their varied backgrounds, perspectives and experiences
together in a collaborative environment. One of the founding principles
of Kalistos is to place musical excellence and group unity above ego
and personal agendas. As a result, the group is fully rotational both
musically and administratively allowing each member an opportunity to
explore a broad range of responsibilities and roles.

The fifteen members of Kalistos represent nine different countries, four
continents and a wide range of musical traditions. It is the belief of
the Kalistos Ensemble that this diversity, particularly when communicated
through the international language of music, can reach out beyond the
concert hall into a larger segment of the community. Each concert Kalistos
presents will be co-sponsored with a Boston area non-profit organization
that shares these goals. Our non-profit partner for the May 19th concert
is ROCA. ROCA is a multicultural, grassroots youth and community
organization based in Chelsea, MA. ROCA's mission is to promote justice by
creating opportunities with young people and families to lead healthy and
happy lives. A donation to support ROCA's activities would be greatly
appreciated. Please visit their website: www.rocainc.org for more
information.
