Jessica,

A couple of references worth looking at include:

Schroeder, Erich (ed.)
1991 Landscape, Architecture, and Artifacts: Historical Archaeology
of Nineteenth Century Illinois. Illinois Cultural Resources Study No.
15, Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, Springfield, Illinois.

Hart, John and Charles Fisher (eds.)
2000 Nineteenth and Early Twentieth Century Domestic Site Archaeology
in New York State. New York State Museum Bulletin 495, The University
of the State of New York and the State Education Department, Albany, New
York.

Hello!

Does anyone have any references for work done with 19th-century
homesteads in
the context of CRM work? How does one determine if an artifact scatter
(in
this context) should be recommended for more work? What sort of
research
questions can one ask?

Obviously, any help/advice is much appreciated! :)

Thanks,
Jessica
