I may be mistaken, but I think I read somewhere an NPS piece of writing that
suggested that it would come and dig your site for a fee, an apparently
modest one with the latest standards of evaluation followed. This struck me
odd, as I didn't realize they were allowed to do that. I worked on one of
the sites the American University (now across the street in Washington, DC
from the Homeland Security Agency) had processed fro the Dept. of Interior
in its publication about four historic sites in our National Parks.
(American University once one of the few listed that taught the Japanese
language ca. 1973) It seemed very bold for them to suggest it, anyone else
read it? I have worked on both sides and thought it an interesting threat,
"do it right or we will come and do it for them."
