At the Raritan Landing site in central New Jersey we have found, in a circa
1720-1740 context, sherds of a Manganese Mottled aka Midlands Mottled mug
with an AR reign mark beneath the handle that is very similar to those
found on stonewares. The literature (including Noel Hume's If These Pots
Could Talk) mentions examples from Great Britain. Has anyone found any in
the US or Canada or Australia?
