While the swarm got away, I am very thankful for the
opportunity to have educated so many people about bees
in the process. I spoke to about a dozen people at the
site, including the policewoman who called in the
report, and the newspaper photographer who arrived on
the scene, all of whom were amazed to see me walk
right up to this terrifying mass of bees. I later
spoke to dozens more who saw my picture in the paper
and wanted to know what it was all about, why I wasn't
wearing gloves in the photo, etc.

I give numerous talks at elementary schools about
honeybees, but rarely do I have the chance to reach
adults in this way.
