Description:  The University of Missouri at Saint Louis (http://www.umsl.edu/) will operate a nine week archaeological field school. The first three weeks (May 26 - June 13) will be spent at the Oak Grove Plantation outside of Arrow Rock, Missouri exploring its enslaved African-American heritage. The second three weeks (June 23 - July 11) will be spent at the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site in Illinois uncovering portions of the prehistoric palisade wall that enclosed this Mississippian town (AD 1050 - 1350).   The final three weeks (July 14 - August 1) will be spent in the Old North St. Louis neighborhood investigating social relationships between German-American and African-American households in the late 19th century.

Cost:  Those interested can sign up for three to nine college credits in Anthropology 109/309: Archaeological Field School through the University of Missouri at Saint Louis. The cost to enroll is $153.40 per credit hour for Missouri residents or $458.50 per credit hour for nonresidents.  Transportation and lodging will be provided during Session I, but will not be provided during Sessions II and III. Food is the responsibility of each student.  Scholarships may be available to help supplement travel and food costs. Volunteers are also welcome to participate in all three field sessions.
