Peter, for several years I had 100 colonies in an apiary on the edge of the
campus. No problems with stings, I had an 8 ft locked fence around the
whole yard. We worked them on the weekends, did experiments during the
week. Only complaint, in the fall the bees left yellow deposits on the
hoods of the white patrol cars. The security officers didn't like that --
but the solution was for them to park on the other side of the lot, not
next to the yard. We finally moved, not because of problems but because
renovation of a nearby house. The house was turned into a conference
center and the DONOR didn't like the looks of a bee yard. So, we moved out
to our west campus -- not nearly as handy, but probably a better place for
the bees.
