On Tuesday June 3, Washington Musica Viva presents the sixteenth concert
in their popular ongoing Czech Music Series at the Embassy of the Czech
Republic. Since its inception in 1998, the Czech Music Series has been
introducing contemporary and classical Czech music to Washington audiences
under the guidance of pianist Carl Banner. This program offers Leos
Janacek's smoldering String Quartet #1 ("Kreutzer Sonata"), Bohuslav
Martinu's brilliant "Madrigals" for violin/viola duet, and Viteszlav
Novak's great Piano Quintet in A minor, Op. 12, rivaling Dvorak in its
evocative use of Czech folk song.

Performers are National Symphony Orchestra members Natasha Bogachek,
violin, Mahoki Eguchi, viola, and Janet Frank, cello, along with Zino
Bogachek, violin, of the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, and Carl
Banner, pianist.

This event will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Czech Embassy, 3900 Spring of
Freedom St. NW. Reservations (and picture ID) are required. Call 202/274-
9100, x. 3413. Tickets are $12 at the door. www.czech.cz.washington
