As a Mexican I must said that of course "Estrellita" is originally a
song, and after Maestro Ponced used it as part of the second movement
of his Violin Concert. It was in part because he was tired anb bored
about Estrellita" and making a beutiful wod game he says " Ya estoy
estrellado" (something like I'm Broken, because of this song. As you
know it was Heifetz who ask the maestro to use it on the concerto, but
there are several versions: For Piano & Cello, for guitar, For flute and
of course a wonderful version Orchestral. Part of the text in this song
is:
   Estrellita del lejano cielo,
qie miras mi dolor, que sabes mi sufrir,
baja y dime si me quiere un poco,
   porque sin su amor
   no puedo ya vivir.

Something like:
Far away star in the sky,
you watch mi pain and suffer
   come down and tell me
if she loves me, because without her
   I cannot live.

I must say I'm not a POnce Specialist but i lve in the city where he grow
up. Here we have his piano, his wedding photo, his tea car, and his death
mask.
