I have just checked - maybe badly - but no one seems to have mentioned
the painter Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres (1780-1867) of 'violon d'Ingres'
fame... As a violinist, he was playing in the Toulouse Capitole Orchestra
at the surprising age of eleven whilst simultaneously studying art.
Although he moved in musical and cultural circles, I don't know if anyone
wrote music specifically for him. Do you?
Speaking of Mozart, he once said that there was no grace possible without
strength. I like that.
