I'd likely add the Guillou recording to my review project, but I still
feel a need to continue my vacation from the king of instruments.  I
also initially thought I would do both keyboard and orchestral versions,
including even the recent piano concerto recording by Naumoff(sp?).
But when I added it all up, my better judgement prevailed.  So, I just
fell back on the keyboard.  This makes me think of the harpsichord,
clavichord, and pedal harpsichord.  I'm not aware of any recordings
using these instruments, but I'd love to be in error.  The pedal
harpsichord would make a particularly intriguing choice.  At any rate,
it's nice to have the opportunity to take a step back from the typically
bloated orchestral performances.  Last thought - I didn't know that
Ravel did the orchestration almost fifty years after Mussorgsky wrote
the work, but I should have known it.

This really is the last thought.  My dad loved Ravel's orchestration, and
he would greatly boost the volume for the conclusion.  That would wake me
up when I was a teenager, and I instantly thought I was at a big-time
coronation.
