I've been meaning to post this for some time, but you know how time is: it
flies whether you are having fun or not.

Stokowski's RCA recording of Mahler's 2nd was derived almost exclusively
from studio rehearsals.  Sometimes there were long takes, other times much
shorter.  He was ill and in his 80s at the time and often had to quit after
a short period.  If you listen to it, however, you could never tell.  After
it was finished Stokowski said he would conduct no more Mahler because it
was too depressing.
