Just wanted to share something that occurred while I was making rounds
yesterday. I was talking with a mom who had had a C-Section earlier
that day. Her baby was in NICU needing a lot of nursing care. Usually,
when a mom is returned to her room after a C/S if her baby is in NICU,
she is wheeled through a corner of the NICU so she can brielfy see or
hold her baby. In this case, she could only look at him from a
distance. It just so happened that a friend of hers had also delivered
that morning. I think the dads had talked in the hall. Anyway, as I
was talking to her about pumping, the other mom wheeled her baby into
the room, picked it up and handed it to the C/S mom saying, "I know you
haven't been able to hold your baby yet, so why don't you hold ours for
a bit." I don't know if that was acceptable per hospital protocols, but
at that moment I really didn't care. The look of joy on that C/S moms
face was priceless. What a selfless gesture!
