I'm not disagreeing with Don (although I like the Lindsays' Haydn ore than
he does) just using his message to reply to...

Symphonies:  93-104 Beecham (although the editions are corrupt), 99-104
Wo"ldike on Vanguard, first recording of the HC Robbins Landon edition (he
was on hand in the studio) and in superb sound for the 1950s.  Great
performances.  Also No.88 by Furtwaengler.

The late masses are wonderful.  epecially the Nelson (Willcocks or Pinnock)
which HRCL reckons is Haydn's greatest single work (I think I agree).

The quartets from Op.20 (33) onward are all masterpieces.  I like the
Tatrai's Op.71, 74 & 76.  Quatuor Mosaiques are superb in the last 3 (Op.77
& 103)

Nobody has mentioned John McCabe's piano sonatas on Decca, which I like
very much.
