Yes it is just a movie, but unfortunately many people get a great deal
of what "they know" about history from movies. Brave Heart is probably
the best known movie about medieval Scotland in the US. Everyone knows
what a wonderful exciting individual William Wallace was. The only
problem being that there was very little in the movie that was even
vaguely historically accurate. While my Scots ancestors did paint
themselves blue, Wallace as a Norman would never have considered it. It
is equally unlikely that Arthur, as a Romano-Brit, would have had
anything to do with a Pictish woman, princess or not. Makes for good
theatre, but rotten history, and most folks don't know enough to tell
the difference.
