For Philip and other lurkers who wish information on volunteer oportunities
in Archaeology: Check out the USDA Passport In Time (PIT) Webpages at
http://www.passportintime.com/

Click on the "New Project" icon for a list of states that have PIT projects
scheduled. It comes out twice a year. One can also get on the hard copy
mailing list. Projects range from Prehistoric and Historic excavations,
stabilization or repair of a wide variety of Historic structures,
laborartory work, recording prehistoric petroglyphs and pictiographs,
archival research and documentation of collections (just to hit the broad
categoreis).

After my experiences supervisiing the field lab for the Arkansas
Archeological Society annaul training program
(http://www.uark.edu/depts/4society/index.html) for most of the 10 years,
I have a great respect and appreciation for those who volunteer for
archaeological projects. If anyone else on the list is a volunteer and a
"lurker" (as I am on some lists), contact me and I will try and send you
some contact information for your area.
