I unearthed the Bach Guild LP equivalent of Gene's tape, which reminded me
that the Esterhazy Orchestra was an American outfit founded by Blum who was
born in 1935. I had a very faint memory of having heard them in another
Haydn symphony, # seventy something, perhaps.

Google found for me the news that Blum died at some unspecified date,
reported in a 1998 International Cello Society newsletter. It also turned
up a UK site which sells LPs at high prices, including two others with Nos
59 and 70, and Nos 39 and 73, all of which I would love to hear. I haven't
seen much activity in Vanguard re-releases for some time, so these may
never make it to CD.
