The Americas Vocal Ensemble Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month With
Concerts at Jackson Heights and Flushing Libraries

The Americas Vocal Ensemble, Nelly Vuksic, Music Director, will
present two special concerts at Queens Borough Public Library branches
in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. These concerts will be
presented on Saturday, September 28, 2002, 2:30 PM at Jackson Heights
Library, 35-51 81st Street, Jackson Heights and on Saturday, October 5,
2002, 2 PM at Flushing Library, 41-17 Main Street, Flushing.

The programs, "Music from Latin America and Spain", will draw from the
repertory of Spain and Latin America and will feature wonderful ensemble
singing and solos by six members of the AVE and piano solos by Cesar
Vuksic. The performers will present a variety of works and styles which
reflect the richness and evolution of this music.

These concerts are free and open to the public and are made possible
with funds from the Decentralization program, a Regrant program of New
York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Queens Council on
the Arts. For more information about these events, please contact the
Jackson Heights Library at (718) 899-2500 or the Flushing Library at
(718) 661-1200, or visit the Queens Borough Public Library online at

The AVE was founded by its Director Nelly Vuksic as a professional
chamber group whose mission is to foster understanding among the people
of the Americas and to preserve the musical and cultural richness of the
diverse countries of North and South America. It brings to its audiences
a most enjoyable and rarely performed repertory which encompasses the
whole range of the music of the Americas, from the colonial period to
contemporary times, through concerts, educational programs and recordings.

The Americas Vocal Ensemble made its debut at New York's Americas Society
in 1982, and has performed throughout the northeast U.S. and South
America. They present unique and innovative programs and have performed
premieres of more than 100 contemporary works, including compositions by
leading North and South American composers. AVE has been heard on National
Public Radio, many New York stations and the Voice of America. They have
also appeared on New York Public Television and the Hispanic Information
and Telecommunications TV Network. Their two latest CDs "Serenata" and
"Gala del Dia" have been recorded for North South Consonance, whose website
is at http://www.nsmusic.com/catalog/catalog.html. They have also recorded
for CBS, Opus 1, Premiere and 4Tay. Visit their website at
