... by describing the experiences of a hypothetical Mr K from the planet
Klatu. All of which was quite interesting but was also too limited in
focus.
If Mr K came all this way to earth in search of objective truth in music,
surely he would not just sample various genres of "Western" music. As
a scientist surely he would want to sample everything musical that this
planet has to offer. What would he objectively make of Tuvan throat
singing, Indonesian Gamelan music, Chinese Opera, & the wealth of other
Oceanic, African, Middle Eastern, Indian, Arctic & South American genres,
for instance? If his ears were more bat-like, would that make him an
audiophile, far more interested in the sound of his equipment & its
noise filtering systems than in the actual music?
