And yet a couple more:
* In addition to the RVW symphonies already mentioned, RVW first used the
saxophone in "Job."
* Philip Glass has written a Concerto for Saxophone Quartet.
The RVW 9th Symphony -- where the pair of saxes open and close the work
with haunting parallel thirds -- really showcases the poetic side of the
instrument.
