The figure of Darius Milhaud is fat enough to turn him the most notorious
candidate. "Saudades" is a very beautiful piece, whose title, by the way,
doesn't match the mood of the music (IMHO, of course).

If I don't remember bad, some operas of Carlos Gomes were premiered (or
performed) at Paris, but I know no details about it.

You may try the relationship between contemporary French composers
and their Brazilian colleagues. Some (in fact, many) Latin American
contemporary composers were pupils of Messiaen, Boulez or Schaeffer.
The only case related to Brazil that I remember now is the Argentinian
composer Eduardo Bertola (1939-1996), who was a pupil of Schaeffer in
Paris. Later, he was professor during many years at the School of Music
of the University of Minas Gerais and at Belo Horizonte, where many of
his works were premiered.
