Judith Lang Zaimont's "Doubles" For Oboe And Piano Available for
Performances

Judith Lang Zaimont's "Doubles" for Oboe and Piano is available for
performances by oboists around the world. Published by Jeanne, Inc
(http://www.jeanne-inc.com/), the work has been performed throughout the
U.S., Canada, at the International Double Reed Society annual conference in
Minneapolis and in London at the biennial conference of the International
Alliance of Women in Music.

A superb showcase for both oboist and pianist, "Doubles" was written
in 1993 on an Artists International commission from oboist Lisa Kozenko.
Kozenko premiered the work at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall in 1994
and performs it on Arabesque CD Z6667 - "Neon Rhythm" - Chamber Music of
Judith Lang Zaimont with pianist Dana Burnett. Support for the commission
came through a grant from the American Composers Forum with funds provided
by the Jerome Foundation.

"Doubles" was selected for the prestigious "Century List" published in the
June 1999 issue of Chamber Music Magazine. This list of 100 works by 100
Twentieth Century composers from around the world was compiled by Frank J.
Oteri to identify "the vital music of this century" and to stimulate radio
broadcasts of music of our time. Selected for its structural ingenuity and
virtuosic writing for both instruments, "Doubles" was characterized by
Oteri as "a piece that shows off how beautiful the sound of an oboe is!"

Judith Lang Zaimont teaches at the University of Minnesota and is an
internationally recognized composer whose music is characterized by its
expressive strength, dynamism, and rhythmic vitality. Her musical language
is coloristic, and she has contributed to virtually every genre in a style
featuring clear pulse, intricate surfaces and an almost centrifugal shift
of tonal pivots.

Ms. Zaimont's music is widely performed throughout the U.S. and Europe
and has been recorded for the Koch International Classics, Arabesque,
Milken Family Foundation, Albany, Jeanne, Leonarda, Northeastern, and 4Tay
labels. She was awarded the 1995 Recording Award - First Prize awarded by
the International Alliance for Women in Music (for the Arabesque CD "Neon
Rhythm"). Several other Zaimont compositions have been honored by
selection for competition repertoire lists, including works for the
Carnegie - Rockefeller competition for interpreters of American vocal music
and the 2001 Eleventh Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Her
music appears on two Century lists (Chamber Music America; Piano & Keyboard
Magazine), and is the subject of many articles, book chapters and several
dissertations.
